Dear colleague,
Minister Swann Update on the Planned COVID-19 Vaccination Programme in Northern Ireland
This afternoon Mr Robin Swann MLA, Minister for Health provided
an update on the planned COVID-19 vaccination programme in Northern Ireland.
The Department of Health press release can be seen here.
Whilst the Minister is clear that the COVID-19 vaccination
programme in Northern Ireland still requires regulatory approval the statement
confirms that ‘GPs and community pharmacists will also have a key role to
play as the programme progresses next year’.
CPNI will continue to engage with the DoH(NI), HSCB and PHA in
relation to the arrangements whereby Community Pharmacists will be involved in
the vaccination of those in the relevant target groups.
I am sure you will agree this is a welcome development, it
demonstrates the further integration of Community Pharmacy as a key part of the
Health Service in Northern Ireland at this time and it builds on the
professionalism demonstrated by Community Pharmacy teams in the Department of
Health’s Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Programme and the wider response by
community pharmacy teams to COVID-19 this year.
CPNI will continue to keep you updated on this matter.
Yours sincerely
