Public Appointment Competition for 6 x Council Members to the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI)

Dear Contractor

As you may be aware, the Department of Health NI (DoH) is seeking to appoint 6 Council Members (3 x Lay & 3 x Registrant) to the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Applications from women are especially welcome as they are currently under-represented on the PSNI Council. The deadline for receipt of applications is 12:00 noon BST Friday 21 June 2024.

Further information is available on the DoH website here.

Registrant members of the PSNI council play an important and impactful role. Those appointed to the council have an opportunity and responsibility to input and shape the considerations of the pharmacy regulator, and to assist with the delivery of regulatory governance.

Should you have any questions or require further information, you may wish to email: public.appointments@health-ni.gov.uk, or alternatively contact a member of the CPNI team.

Kind regards

Dear colleague

Many of you will be aware that the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has launched a day of action to take place on Thursday 20th June 2024 called ‘One Day to #saveourpharmacies’.  As part of this day they are asking pharmacies to turn their lights out for two hours, get their staff to wear black, black out their windows and/or invite parliamentary candidates to their pharmacy.

With community pharmacies across the UK facing unprecedented challenges, they have invited other pharmacy bodies to share the information with their own members and we have been liaising with the NPA in relation to this.

The day of action is open to all community pharmacies across the UK.

Further information on the day of action contained in the NPA campaign material includes the following:

Take action on Thursday June 20th 2024 – One Day to #saveourpharmacies

This is a day to bring community pharmacies together, start conversations with your patients and community to make a powerful call for change and a better, more sustainable future for your amazing service.

We are asking pharmacies to take some visual action to demonstrate their anger at the poor funding for their service and highlight the potential of pharmacy to build a better, healthier future for all in our communities.

  • Turn out the lights 9am-11am to show the dark times for community pharmacies
  • Post on social media using the #saveourpharmacies hashtag to make our voice louder

You can tailor your action to suit your circumstances, but we are also encouraging pharmacies to:

  • All wear black in your pharmacy to show the dark times for our service
  • Wear a black ribbon to show your support
  • Black out your window to make people think how much they would miss a pharmacy service
  • Share your story with local media
  • Invite parliamentary candidates or elected politicians to your pharmacy

A list of candidates for the UK Parliamentary general election can be found here and if you enter your postcode you will find contact details of candidates in your area.

CPNI supports this NPA ‘One Day to #saveourpharmacies’ campaign and we would encourage you and your teams to participate in it on Thursday 20th June 2024.

Please do not hesitate to contact your NPA representative or myself Jude Austin at judea@communitypharmacyni.co.uk if you require any further information.

Kind regards

Jude

Dear Contractor

SPPG have written to community pharmacies involved in the palliative care on call service in the Northern and Western areas outlining changes that will be introduced to the service from July 2024.

CPNI have been involved in reviewing the palliative care on call service with SPPG and had contacted community pharmacies providing the service for any feedback. CPNI provided the feedback to SPPG and SPPG have now made commissioning decisions on the service that will take effect from July 2024.

The changes will be kept under review so if you experience any issues relating to this service please ensure you advise your local SPPG office and CPNI.

Kind regards

Dear Contractor

Recently, you may have received correspondence from your local SPPG office regarding changes to rota. A review of rota arrangements has been underway since 2023 and CPNI had written to all contractors last year asking for any feedback or suggestions relating to rota in your own specific area. CPNI have provided any feedback received from contractors to SPPG for consideration.

Letters have now been issued by SPPG local offices to contractors who will be involved in rota going forward with updated rota arrangements also shared locally. Contractors have been asked to respond by a certain date otherwise it will be assumed that you agree to the proposed changes. CPNI would ask all contractors to read the correspondence thoroughly and provide any necessary feedback to your local SPPG office by the date indicated within the communication as there is still an opportunity to influence the local arrangements that will be introduced in your area.

While CPNI have been involved in the review and discussed potential changes with SPPG, factoring local contractor views into those discussions, the final decision on the service that is being commissioned has been made by SPPG.

CPNI are also aware that funding for rota has not yet been reviewed and SPPG have advised that once the budget for 24/25 is confirmed by DoH the rates can be reviewed.

Please contact your local SPPG office or CPNI if you have any queries.
