Dear Contractor
Please see attached correspondence from Kathryn Turner, Pharmacy Lead, Strategic Planning and Performance Group.

SUMMARY

  • The Interim Community Pharmacy Medicines Adherence Service commenced on the 18 July 2022, with a small number of referrals into the service so far from across the five Trusts.
  • The full details of the service can be accessed HERE including a reminder of the eligibility criteria, and new Frequently Asked Questions.
  • In each Trust area there are a small number of patients who are followed up by the Trust adherence pharmacist following discharge. In agreement with CPNI, where necessary, the adherence pharmacist can complete the Adherence Referral Form and refer the patient to community pharmacy for on-going support.
    • The contact details of the Trust Adherence Pharmacists and the geographical areas they cover are contained within the correspondence.
  • Work is continuing to specify a commissioned adherence service later in 2022. This will enable community pharmacists to assess and provide adherence support to patients in the community (cohort 2).

ACTION

  • Contractors and pharmacists involved in the provision of this service are asked to review the attached correspondence.
  • Contractors are asked to ensure that all relevant pharmacy staff are aware of the interim medicines adherence service and read the service specification carefully.
  • Contractors are also asked to ensure that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is in place for the provision of the interim service.
  • If you have any queries please contact a Pharmacy Advisor at your local SPPG office.
  • Please do not hesitate to contact the CPNI office should you require any further information.

Kind regards

  • The findings will be used to inform service developments and improvements for future vaccination campaigns. Further information on the study is detailed HERE.

ACTION

  • Contractors and pharmacists involved in the provision of this service are asked to review the correspondence.
  • If you wish to participate in the upcoming study, please reply to the email address x2u95@students.keele.ac.uk or before Friday 19 August 2022 to confirm your willingness to participate.
