The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has set a date for the next Ask Your Pharmacist (AYP) public awareness week: 4-11 November 2013.
This year, the focus will be on advice and treatment for common ailments and other community pharmacy based support to help people stay well during the winter months. People will be encouraged to make use of pharmacies as their first port of call for self- care inside and outside the NHS.
Stephen Fishwick, Head of External Relations at the NPA said:
“As ever during Ask Your Pharmacist Week, we will be making people more aware of the support that’s available on their doorstep in pharmacies. This year, we will emphasise the point that community pharmacy is a convenient setting to get help for coughs and sneezes and all manner of other health concerns which don’t necessarily require a GP or hospital appointment.”
NPA Members will have access to the following free resources:
• Window posters
• Guidance to help pharmacy support staff engage with customers about winter ailments
• A template press release to promote pharmacy in the local media
• A social media resource which includes a daily Twitter and Facebook update that members can simply copy and paste into their pharmacy’s social media accounts
• Powerpoint presentations and talk notes to use at community talks
Evaluation of last year’s AYP Week showed a rise in awareness of pharmacy services, including a 4% increase in the number of people knowing that a medicine use review is a free NHS service.
